The latest update for Visual Studio 2022 is officially out. Offering a comprehensive suite of enhancements that span productivity, programming languages, and enterprise management, this general release is a monumental step forward. Developed with extensive user feedback, this version is fully compatible with .NET 8, which is also generally available as of today. 

As we come to towards the end of 2023, we are excited to announce the general availability of PowerShell 7.4! This release is built on .NET 8 and similarly, is our latest Long Term Support (LTS) release supported for 3 years. 

In .NET 8 we plan to add a new project template, Blazor Web Application, that covers all combinations of server-hosted projects (traditional Blazor Server apps, Blazor WebAssembly hosted, and the new unified architecture that allows use of Server, WebAssembly, and SSR in a single project). It will work by multitargeting over net8.0 and net8.0-browser. 

Initial tests that we’ve run have WSL 2 running up to 20x faster compared to WSL 1 when unpacking a zipped tarball, and around 2-5x faster when using git clone, npm install and cmake on various projects. 

the ASP.NET Core results are almost two times (2x) faster than the Full Framework version.  

C# 8 was officially released in September at .NET Conf along side .NET Core 3 & Visual Studio 16.3 (8.3 on Mac). It is packed with tons of amazing new features that truly everyone should be using.
