As software creation processes continue to become more complicated, development teams are taking a more all-encompassing approach that involves agile testing methodologies. Like agile software development, agile testing involves running test cases that assess the overall integrity of a solution, rather than simply ensuring that each part and piece are technically sound. Viewed as an analogy, agile testing methodologies ensure that software is a well-oiled machine, whereas a linear approach to testing just ensures that each of the gears is in good order. Herein lies the difference between unit tests and test automation. 

Performance Improvements in .NET 9

Each year, summer arrives to find me daunted and excited to write about the performance improvements in the upcoming release of .NET. “Daunted,” because these posts, covering .NET 8, .NET 7, .NET 6, .NET 5, .NET Core 3.0, .NET Core 2.1, and .NET Core 2.0, have garnered a bit of a reputation I want to ensure the next iteration lives up to. And “excited,” because there’s such an abundance of material to cover due to just how much goodness has been packed into the next .NET release, I struggle to get it all written down as quickly as my thoughts whirl.

This issue represents the list of major investments our team will focus on during the .NET 7 timeframe. It does not include all the features and bugfixes we will be tackling during this time. 

- Project format is changing to a single JSON file
- ASP.NET MVC and Web API have been unified into a single programming model
- Project Roslyn allows for a “no-compile” developer experience while making updates
- Migration to a OWIN hosting model allows for flexibility in production web hosts (IIS or running on Linux via Mono)

Domain-Driven Refactoring - Jimmy Bogard - NDC London 2022

Books, workshops, storming and more, all build up an idealized domain model. All describe great techniques for domain-driven greenfield applications. But what about the code we have? How can we take what's already built, and move it towards a better, more cohesive design?
In this session, we'll look at anemic, procedural, boring code and examine code smells that can point us in the right direction. We'll also look at standard design patterns for more complex behaviors and models, and how to recognize when (and when not) to apply them. Finally, we'll cover how to safely apply refactoring techniques to achieve our domain-driven model nirvana.
