Stack Overflow Developer Desktop Build - 2017

One of the things we're big on at Stack Exchange is hardware - we love it. More importantly, we love not waiting on it. With that in mind, we upgrade our developer machines every 2 years. In case it helps anyone else, I'm posting our current parts list here. This isn't set in stone, we review and update it to the latest tech every time we build a machine. We also customize the build for each developer if needed - for example those needing extra space or specific display connections, etc. I'll try and keep this page updated as we make changes

The ASP.NET team is proud to announce general availability of ASP.NET Core 2.0.  This release features compatibility with .NET Core 2.0, tooling support in Visual Studio 2017 version 15.3, and the new Razor Pages user-interface design paradigm.  For a full list of updates, you can read the release notes.  The latest SDK and tools can be downloaded from https://dot.net/core. Read the .NET Core 2.0 release announcement for more information and watch the launch video on Channel 9.

Windows 10 May 2021 Update (version 21H1) is now available to seekers who want to install it right now. Initially, it will be available to select devices running Windows 10 version 2004 or later. If you have a compatible device, and you can't wait for the rollout to complete, go to the Windows Update settings page and check for the new update. 

Update and upgrade are two different ways to make a change to an app or operating system. But the prime difference lies in a number of modifications made and the importance of those modifications. A software update includes bug fixes, and other small improvements, while a software upgrade changes the version of a software

Entity Framework Core (EF Core) 7 is available on NuGet today!

EF Core 7 is the successor to EF Core 6, and can be referred to as EF7 for brevity. EF Core 7 contains many features that help in porting “classic” EF6 applications to use EF7. As such, we encourage people to upgrade existing classic EF applications to use EF7 where possible. See Porting from EF6 to EF Core for more information. 

Windows Package Manager will support every Windows 10 version since the Fall Creators Update (1709)! The Windows Package Manager will be delivered with the Desktop App Installer when we ship version 1.0. If you are building software to run on Windows 10 you will have a simple way for your customers to install your software on billions of machines. 

Windows 11 marks a visual evolution of the operating system. We have evolved our design language alongside with Fluent to create a design which is human, universal and truly feels like Windows.
