protobuf-net is a contract based serializer for .NET code, that happens to write data in the "protocol buffers" serialization format engineered by Google. The API, however, is very different to Google's, and follows typical .NET patterns (it is broadly comparable, in usage, to XmlSerializer, DataContractSerializer, etc). It should work for most .NET languages that write standard types and can use attributes.

The key point is that even if you have a monster development machine with 128 processors, SSD drives and 1TB of memory, Visual Studio will only ever use 2 to 2.5GB of memory.
In this post I'll show how to create a logging provider that writes logs to the file system. In production, I'd recommended using a more fully-featured system like Serilog instead of this library, but I wanted to see what was involved to get a better idea of the process myself.
