This release features redesigned docs, CSS variables for all our components, responsive offcanvas, new helpers and utilities, refined buttons and inputs, and lots of improvements under the hood. 

The first version of ASP.NET was released 17 years ago and during these years, it is fascinating to see how the ASP.NET team constructively reacted through these years to the major shifts happening on the web. Initially a platform that was closed and tried to hide and abstract the web; ASP.NET has metamorphized into an open source and cross platform - one that fully embraces the nature of the web. This is the first part of a series of 3 articles that will cover the history of ASP.NET from its launch to the latest ASP.NET Core releases.  

These are the issues addressed in 15.9.15:

• Updated signing of VC Redist packages to enable continued deployment on Windows XP. This fix may have an increased chance of requiring a reboot of the machine in order to install an updated VC++ Redistributable package.
• Fixed in issue where GoToDefinition does not work for JavaScript in script blocks of cshtml files.
• Calling pmr monotonic_buffer_resource release will corrupt memory.
• Fix for HRESULT E_FAIL build error in some C++ projects when upgrading to 15.9.13

The first preview of Entity Framework Core (EF Core) 8 is available on NuGet today!

Basic information

EF Core 8, or just EF8, is the successor to EF Core 7, and is scheduled for release in November 2023, at the same time as .NET 8.

EF8 currently targets .NET 6. This will likely be updated to .NET 8 as we near release.

EF8 will align with .NET 8 as a long-term support (LTS) release. See the .NET support policy for more information. 

To reduce allocations and memory usage when serializing Json.NET 8.0 adds a new IArrayPool interface. Json.NET is already very lean when it comes to allocations, working with raw characters on array buffers instead of allocated strings, but those buffers can easily grow large, and a new buffer is created each time JSON is read or written. IArrayPool allows array buffers to be reused, similar to connection pooling with a database, or thread pooling in .NET.
