This is the first release of a 64-bit Visual Studio and we’d love for you to download it, try it out, and join us in shaping the next major release of Visual Studio with your feedback. 

The .NET Core 2.1 RC 1 is now ready for broad testing and for production use.  

A simple utility to execute a callback when a webfont loads.  Demo

This uses the CSS Font Loading Module when available (currently in Chrome 35+ and Opera 22+). When that isn’t available, it uses a very similar approach to the one used in the TypeKit Web Font Loader (which is currently 7.1KB GZIP).

Basically, it creates an element with a font stack including the web font and a default serif/sans-serif typeface. It then uses a test string and measures the dimensions of the element at a certain interval. When the dimensions are different than the default fallback fonts, the font is considered to have loaded successfully.

If you’d like a full polyfill for the CSS Font Loading Module, follow along with Bram Stein’s Font Loader. I believe the specification has changed since he launched this polyfill, but he’s working on an updated version. 

In Chrome 80 and later, cookies will default to SameSite=Lax. This means that cookies will automatically be sent only in a first party context unless they opt-out by explicitly setting a directive of None.
But if you’re a web developer, you should start testing your sites and services now to help ensure a smooth transition. 

The free Text Sharp extension lets you adjust text clarity in Visual Studio 2015, Visual Studio 2013, Visual Studio 2012 and Visual Studio 2010 IDEs (Professional, Premium, Ultimate and LightSwitch). You can select Aliased, Grayscale or ClearType text rendering mode for Visual Studio menu, tabs and editor windows. An easy way to turn off ClearType. (Aliased rendering looks terrible when text scale is changed from default 100% in text views, so Text Sharp doesn't override VS settings when Aliased+Display is selected and zoom level is not 100%.)

The Project File Tools Visual Studio extension provides package name and version IntelliSense, tooltips for packages, and more, when editing a .csproj file in Visual Studio 

It's been another great year for new development tools and technologies. Here are some that bring cross-platform development languages or capabilities into Visual Studio. 

• Fixed known issue: The debugger's worker process (msvsmon.exe) unexpectedly exited. Debugging will be aborted.
• Fixed known issue: VS 2019 crashes when debugging async code.
• Fixed known issue: Xamarin problem following update to VS2019 16.1.
• Fixed known issue: [Xcode11] [Simulator] Updating to Xcode 11 stops the simulator from launching.
• Improved the reliability of Visual Studio by fixing an intermittent issue that happens when opening solutions.
• Fixed a crash with the search functionality in locals / autos / watch windows when the IDE is not in break mode.
