As anyone in the .NET community who hasn't been living under a rock will know, there's a lot of exciting things happening with .NET at the moment with the announcement of the open source, cross platform, .NET Core. However, partly due to the very open nature of its evolution, there's been a whole host of names associated with its development - vNext, ASP.NET 5, ASP.NET Core, .NET generations etc.
In this post I'm going to try and clarify some of the naming and terminology surrounding the evolution of the .NET framework. I'll discuss some of the challenges the latest iteration is attempting to deal with and how the latest developments aim to address these.
This is really for those that have seen some of the big announcements but aren't sure about the intricacies of this new framework and how it relates to the existing ecosystem, which was my situation before I really started digging into it all properly!
Hopefully by the end of this article you'll have a clearer grasp of the latest in .NET!

.NET Core is clearly where Microsoft is investing most of its effort right now and while it's taken a while, I think MS is proving that they are serious in making .NET the best platform it can be
Internationalization support in Angular has been very poor so far. You might know that there’s anngLocalemodule you need to include, which is used by a couple components, likengPluralize,dateandcurrencyfilter to name a few, and that’s pretty much it. As we’ve already discussed, there’s so much more that comes into play when internationalizing an application, which is why there’s finally a new solution evolving that will bring first-class i18n support to the Angular framework.
Asynchronous Main (it is going to be released in version 7.1)
Default Literal (it is going to be released in version 7.1)
Readonly ref (it is going to be released in version 7.2)
Default interface methods (it is going to be released in version 8.0)
Optional tuple names (to be released in 7.1)
This is a "go live" release that can be used in production with the understanding that you will need to update to the final stable release once it is available.
Firefox is removing its experimental support for installing Progressive Web Apps to the desktop. Whether or not this really constitutes giving up on PWA depends on your point of view, but I think it is disappointing, both for PWA and for Firefox.
