The History of ASP.NET – Part III (Covers ASP.NET Core)

Stairway to XML

XML has been part of the SQL Standard since 2003, and is essential for any DBA because so many of the dynamic management views return XML data. Now that the industry is more used to data defined by document markup, it is becoming more important than ever for Database Developers and DBAs to understand the technology and to know where it makes sense to use XML. Pros and cons of Database identity
Nice to work with in URLs
Limiting, as they require a trip to the database, which precludes some patterns
Can be tricky to return IDs when inserting in some cases (EF Core etc solves this)
Can cause contention in high throughput scenarios. May make scaling out impossible

During the past few weeks, Oracle sent a letter to Russian partners and customers comparing Oracle favorably to Postgres as a way of cirumventing a new law favoring Russian-produced software. This is the first direct attack I have seen on Postgres, and is probably representative of the kinds of attacks we will see from other vendors and in other countries in the years to come.  

• .NET 5 provides two options of runtimes for users: the high-performance CoreCLR (for server and desktop applications), and the lightweight Mono (for mobile and WebAssembly).

React.dev is a new website launched by the React team that serves as the new home for React and its documentation. The site teaches modern React with function components and Hooks, and includes diagrams, illustrations, challenges, and over 600 new interactive examples. 

"Going forward, we do not plan to evolve Visual Basic as a language," the .NET team said. "This supports language stability and maintains compatibility between the .NET Core and .NET Framework versions of Visual Basic. Future features of .NET Core that require language changes may not be supported in Visual Basic. Due to differences in the platform, there will be some differences between Visual Basic on .NET Framework and .NET Core."  

Only Material Web Components that utilized Material UI are being put on pause. The Angular CDK, Material for Angular and the Material UI Design System as a whole are not being affected by this announcement.
