The Top Programming Languages 2023 - IEEE Spectrum 

Have you ever wanted to build something but you had no idea what to do? Just as authors sometimes have "writers block" it's also true for developers. This list is intended to solve this issue once and for all! 👍 

I retired a year and a half ago after having worked for twenty-six years as a programmer for Apple. I’m not sure which would have been more surprising: if I had continued programming in my spare time after I had retired or if I never programmed again. 

The gist of the story goes as follow:

1. The most popular languages are JavaScript/TypeScript and Python with roughly 20% of all pull requests each. In effect, if you put JavaScript/TypeScript and Python together, you get about 40% of all pull requests.
2. Then you get the second tier languages: Java and Scala, C/C++, and Go. They all are in the 10% to 15% range.
3. Finally, you have PHP, Ruby and C# that all manage to get about 5% of all pull requests.
4. Other languages are typically far below 5%. 

While messing around with some C code in godbolt Compiler Explorer, I kept noticing a particular funny case.

A lot of C# 9-related content is around. Very often, records are mentioned as one of the most interestning new features. So, while we can find A LOT of buzz around them, I wanted to provide a distilled set of facts typically not presented when describing them.
