ASP.NET 2.0 introduced a concept of application offline. This mean that when there is App_Offline.htm file in the root of a web application directory then ASP.NET will shut-down the application, unload the application domain from the server, and stop processing any new incoming requests for that application. In ASP.NET 5, there is an open-issue for supporting this feature. 

alert()/confirm()/prompt() dialogs are being changed. Rather than being app-modal, they will be dismissed when their tab is switched from. (Safari 9.1 already does this.) This is fully enabled on the canary and dev channels and partially enabled on the beta and stable channels, and will be enabled more in the future. 

First it is important to recognize that the .NET Framework is not the same as .NET Core. The .NET Framework is effectively now in maintenance mode , and all innovation is occurring in the open source .NET Core now and into the future. So step one to remaining relevant is to understand .NET Core (and the closely related .NET Standard). 

AVIF is a new image format derived from the keyframes of AV1 video. It's a royalty-free format, and it's already supported in Chrome 85 on desktop.

DotSpatial is a geographic information system library written for .NET Framework. It allows developers to incorporate spatial data, analysis and mapping functionality into their applications or to contribute GIS extensions to the community.

DotSpatial provides a map control for .NET and several GIS capabilities including:

• Display a map in a .NET Windows Forms.
• Open shapefiles, grids, rasters and images.
• Render symbology and labels.
• Reproject on the fly.
• Manipulate and display attribute data.
• Scientific analysis.
• Read GPS data. 

"So you shouldn't feel pressured to move off .NET Framework, but just know that it's going to be much more highly targeted compatible fixes kind of going forward and we recommend that all new development that you start on .NET is on .NET Core if possible,"
