.NET Core 2.1 Release: What To Expect in 2018 

Customers currently using .NET Framework 4.5.2, 4.6, or 4.6.1 need to update their deployed runtime to a more recent version – at least .NET Framework 4.6.2 before April 26, 2022 – in order to continue to receive updates and technical support.

You may have noticed it already, but when you create a console application with Visual Studio 2019, the default runtime is not .NET 5 but .NET Core 3.1! Why ? Because .NET 5 is not LTS and therefore Microsoft has intentionally chosen to offer the latest LTS version of .NET by default, ie .NET Core 3.1. 

I've been doing some work the last couple of weeks with Angular2. I really like it. Not just because it uses typescript, but also because it feels really natural and straightforward while working with it. No more string based dependency injection, or strange digest cycle stuff, it just seems to work. This last week I've migrated our beta-13 Angular app to the latest rc-1, and used that to keep track of the fun and easy stuff Angular 2 provides. Note though, that the application we're developing is really that complex, so I can only assume we'll run into more complex Angular2 features in the near future. For now, though, let me share some general tips and tricks we've encountered thus far (in no particular order). Oh, all examples are in typescript, since after using that, I really don't want to go back to plain old javascript (POJS?). 

Rider is a cross-platform .NET IDE: you can use it on Windows, Mac and Linux. Rider lets you develop ASP.NET, .NET Core, .NET Framework, Xamarin and Unity applications. 

The latest version of the NetBeans IDE features a range of new tools for HTML5/JavaScript and supports mixed Java/C++ development. It is now available for download in beta.

This preview of .NET 7 includes improvements to Generic Math which make the lives of API authors easier, a new Text Classification API for ML.NET that adds state-of-the-art deep learning techniques for natural language processing, various improvements to source code generators and a new Roslyn analyzer and fixer for RegexGenerator and multiple performance improvements in the areas of CodeGen, Observability, JSON serialization / deserialization and working with streams. 

The team said that “most of their effort to improve the .NET Core Docker experience in the last year has been focused on .NET Core 3.0.” “This is the first release in which we’ve made substantive runtime changes to make CoreCLR much more efficient, honor Docker resource limits better by default, and offer more configuration for you to tweak”.
