We are excited to release .NET 6 Release Candidate 2. It is the second of two “go live” release candidate releases that are supported in production. For the last couple months, the team has been focused exclusively on quality improvements. There are a lot of new features in the release, which only fully come together near the end. The team is currently validating end-to-end workflows to find the places where design intentions and technical reality don’t yet fully match. That’s led to teams tightening leaky pipes and paving paths all the way to their destination.
First, the decoupling of .NET from Windows
Second, the newfound focus on CLR performance
Third, moving .NET’s tooling to a cross-platform model
Fourth, the .NET user base is embracing the OSS ecosystem as a whole
Fifth, in general the direction on .NET development is pushing users further down into the details of the stack

For us, being a small team, sharing code and high performance was key to helping us make a successful app with the hybrid approach. To us, this was the right decision, as it allowed us to scale to all major platforms with only 1 engineer and 1 designer.

From this benchmark, we are able to understand that Rust has consistent performance and is almost always faster than C# and Go. But that is to be expected as Rust runs on the metal. Between C# and Go the performance seems to be nuanced. As C# and Go seems to outperform each other in difference scenarios.

PostSharp 6.0 is the biggest refactoring since the 2.0 version released in July 2010. For a good cause: PostSharp 6.0 now runs natively in .NET Core 2.0. Previous versions of PostSharp executed only under .NET Framework at build time and the support for .NET Core was achieved by using a load of hacks that ended up being unmaintainable, warranting this big refactoring.
