In this post, I will describe how to port a desktop application from .NET Framework to .NET Core. I picked a WinForms application as an example. Steps for WPF application are similar and I’ll describe what needs to be done different for WPF as we go. I will also show how you can keep using the WinForms designer in Visual Studio even though it is under development and is not yet available for .NET Core projects.
JSON Web Token is a security token which acts as a container for claims about the user, it can be transmitted easily between the Authorization server (Token Issuer), and the Resource server (Audience), the claims in JWT are encoded using JSON which make it easier to use especially in applications built using JavaScript.

Pros and cons of Database identity
Nice to work with in URLs
Limiting, as they require a trip to the database, which precludes some patterns
Can be tricky to return IDs when inserting in some cases (EF Core etc solves this)
Can cause contention in high throughput scenarios. May make scaling out impossible

Why Serilog? It is easy to set up, has a clean API, and is portable between recent .NET platforms. The big difference between Serilog and the other frameworks is that it is designed to do structured logging out of the box. Another thing I really like about Serilog is that it can be configured via the appsetting.json
file alongside configuring through code. Changing logging configuration without touching the codebase is really helpful, especially in the production environment.
In this post, we are going to write about what we consider to be the best practices while developing the .NET Core Web API project. How we can make it better and how to make it more maintainable.
We are going to go through the following sections:
